In June 2014, the UN Human Rights Council established the Open-Ended Working Group on Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises (OEIGWG) to develop an international legally binding instrument on businesses and human rights, focusing on the activities of transnational corporations and other business enterprises. The treaty aims to strengthen corporate accountability for human rights violations in global operations. As of June 2025, negotiations and drafting of the instrument remain ongoing.
