Martin Franz focuses in his research on geographical trade studies, globalization, rural development, sustainability transitions, and land use. His regional focus includes Europe, India, and Turkey.

Martin Franz’s research explores the societal and economic impacts of major transformations such as structural economic change, digitalization, globalization, and sustainability transitions. He is particularly interested in how different groups of actors attempt to influence or adapt to these developments.

Since 2016, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of Standort – Journal of Applied Geography, and from 2016 to 2019, he held an honorary guest professorship at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, China.

Prof. Dr. Martin Franz is Professor of Human Geography with a focus on Economic Geography at Osnabrück University and head of the corresponding research group. He is a member of the Institute of Environmental Systems Research.
