Prof. Dr. Stefan Schaltegger profile picture

Stefan Schaltegger is among the world’s most cited researchers in the field of sustainability management. His main research interests include foundational concepts and methods of sustainability management – such as sustainable entrepreneurship, biodiversity management, business model innovation for sustainability, and sustainable supply chain management – as well as the measurement and control of corporate sustainability through environmental and sustainability accounting, reporting, and performance management. In 2017, he received an honorary doctorate for his internationally leading research in sustainable entrepreneurship, sustainability accounting, and stakeholder relationship management. He has also received multiple awards for his academic work, including honors from the German Association of Environmental Management and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

Stefan Schaltegger serves on the editorial and advisory boards of several international academic journals, including Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of Cleaner Production, and the Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal.

Profile

Prof. Dr. Stefan Schaltegger is professor of Sustainability Management and founder and head of the Centre for Sustainability Management (CSM) at Leuphana University Lüneburg. In 2003, he launched the world’s first MBA in Sustainability Management, which has already graduated over 650 students and alumni by 2020.
