Strong presence of the Go-Chains research cluster at the conference “The Politics of Supply Chains”
Conference on current challenges in global supply chain regulation from November 17 to 18, 2025, in Berlin
On November 17 and 18, 2025, the international conference “The Politics of Supply Chains: Between Regulation, Resistance and Resilience” took place in Berlin. It was organized by the Research Competence Center: Challenges and Resilience of Global Supply and Value Chains at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR). The focus was on current challenges surrounding global supply chain regulation.
The Go-Chains research group was represented at the conference by Henrike Jost, Michel Ortland, Jelto Makris, Jia Zuo, and Elke Schüssler. Research developed within the framework of the graduate college was presented, bringing perspectives on current issues of global supply chain governance into the discussion.
Henrike Jost and Michel Ortland presented the following projects in two poster presentations:
-- “'Til Omnibus do us part? Explaining Advocacy Coalition (In-)Stability in European HREDD Policy Making”
The project uses social network analysis to examine how actor constellations and discourses are developing in the European legislative process for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
-- “Governance Effects of Global Supply Chain Due Diligence Regulations: A Case Survey Analysis”
The literature analysis aims to provide a systematic overview of the hitherto fragmented scientific debate on the effects of legal due diligence obligations.
In addition, Elke Schüssler gave a presentation entitled “From Compliance to Due Diligence: The Role of Transparency for the Development of Sustainable Supply Chain Governance Regimes,” in which she analyzed the role of transparency in the development of global governance structures.
The conference offered participants from the Go-Chains research group not only the opportunity to present their own research approaches, but also to further develop them in exchange with other scientists. In particular, Stefano Ponte's keynote speech encouraged them to critically reflect on existing governance paradigms.
